UPDATE: The Trump administration's cuts to the Endangered Species Act will strip protections for endangered and threatened wildlife — opening up land to mine for fossil fuels. That means devastating consequences for wildlife and humans.

Dear Supporter,
The Trump Extinction Plan would gut the protective power of the Endangered Species Act. It would suddenly become harder to extend protections to threatened species and would allow economic factors to distort decisions about protecting a species from complete extinction.
That is devastating news for threatened and endangered species like the Florida Key deer and Canada Lynx — and for people too.
By making it more difficult to list species, and easier to remove them from the list, the Extinction Plan opens more land for fossil fuel drilling and mining. That means more dirty coal, more dangerous fracking, and more destructive oil drilling.
Supporter, the Endangered Species Act is a vital safeguard that protects animal and human life. But they keep trying to tear it down. It's already under attack in the Senate from Sen. John Barrasso — who is trying to pass several bills to strip the ESA's protective power.
We have to act fast: we'll rally support for the law among our environmental champions on Capitol Hill, defend against any legislative attacks, engage our grassroots coalition around the Act's many successes, and use our legal strategies to defend the Act in court. But to do all of that we need your support by becoming a monthly donor today.

At a time when scientists are warning of the potential extinction of a million species due to things like habitat destruction and fossil fuel burning, the administration's actions could not be more short-sighted. The toxic pollution released by fossil fuel burning disproportionately affects communities of color — who will also be the most severely impacted by the climate crisis.
We've fought the administration before. And we have public support on our side: a 2018 survey showed that four out of five Americans support the Endangered Species Act. Now we need your support by becoming a monthly donor today.
