Dear John,
It’s been four weeks since Election Day. And everything we’ve learned about the plans of Trump and Republicans so far tells us one thing:
Republicans are dead serious about trying to implement their Project 2025 agenda to seize control of every aspect of the government and enrich their billionaire friends, all while throwing regular working people under the bus.
- Of the people Trump has nominated to be part of his administration so far, at least 17 are directly associated with Project 2025 or the America First Policy Institute.1
- That includes the “architect” of Project 2025 Russell Vought, who wrote the chapter that detailed plans for greatly expanding the powers of the presidency.2
- For key posts in law enforcement, the Defense Department, and intelligence agencies, Trump has chosen corrupt unqualified loyalists who have proclaimed out loud their willingness to abuse their positions and exact revenge against political opponents.3
- He’s also elevated multi-billionaires like Elon Musk, giving them license to enrich themselves even further all while calling for the elimination of entire agencies that protect working people.4
- All of this as Republicans in Congress show no sign of standing in the way, and every sign that they plan to help Trump enact the full Project 2025 agenda — starting with more tax cuts for billionaires.5
We had a good sense of what was coming months ago if Republicans were to win control of the government — because they told us in detail in a 922-page document. And everything we’re seeing so far shows us they were dead serious.
But we also know what we need to do to fight back:
First, we need to defend against hopelessness and cynicism. That’s exactly what authoritarian Republicans want us to be feeling right now.
Then, we need to focus on organizing a multiracial, working class movement to thwart their plans in 2025 — because we know their playbook, and we know their agenda has no actual answers for working people.
And finally, we need to prepare now to win back power for working people in 2026 and 2028.
2025 doesn’t need to look like “Project 2025.” But in order to fight back and win, we need the resources to keep organizing in key communities nationwide — even during electoral “off years” like the one coming up.
Can you pitch in today to make sure we can hit the ground running in 2025 to organize working people against the Trump agenda?
