TUMWATER — Adult entertainers will be safer and keep more of their earnings under updated rules filed by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries [ [link removed] ] (L&I) this week.

The rules take effect Jan. 2, 2025, and were drafted following legislation signed into law in March that expands safety requirements and financial protections for adult entertainers.

The stronger requirements include:


* *Protective systems:* Install and maintain accessible panic buttons in bathrooms, dressing rooms, and each room where entertainers could be alone with customers and secure dressing and locker rooms with a keypad requiring an entry code.
* *Improved security*: Dedicated security guards must be present during operating hours. 
* *Blocking problematic customers: *Maintain a list of customers who’ve allegedly committed sex trafficking, prostitution, promotion of prostitution, and acts of violence against entertainers and ban those customers from the establishment for three years.
* *Training to employees other than entertainers* to minimize unprofessional behavior by workers in adult entertainment establishments and enable them to support the entertainers in times of conflict.  
* *Eliminating unfair financial systems*: The rules remove systems that held adult entertainers responsible for most of the club's fees. Allows workers to keep their tips and gratuities and not disclose the amounts.
* *Improved complaint process:* Ensures complaints are investigated and makes it easier for workers to engage with L&I.

“Like any other worker in the state, adult entertainers deserve job-site safety and protection from unfair labor practices,” said Celeste Monahan, L&I assistant director for Fraud Prevention and Labor Standards. “These new rules make sure safety and a level playing field are the standard.”

L&I held stakeholder meetings and public hearings that included adult entertainers and industry members to gather input on the proposed rules. They will continue to provide input on implementation and resources over the coming months as the updated rules take effect.

*Los artistas del sector del entretenimiento para adultos verán importantes mejoras salariales y de seguridad en 2025*

TUMWATER — El Departamento de Labor e Industrias del Estado de Washington [ [link removed] ] (L&I) ha actualizado esta semana su normativa para que los artistas del sector del entretenimiento para adultos puedan estar más seguros y conservar una mayor parte de sus ingresos.

Las reglas serán efectivas a partir del 2 de enero de 2025 y se elaboraron a raíz de una ley promulgada en marzo que amplía los requisitos de seguridad y las protecciones financieras de estos artistas.

Los requisitos más estrictos incluyen:


* *Sistemas de protección:* Instalar y mantener botones de pánico accesibles en baños, vestuarios y cada habitación donde los artistas puedan estar a solas con los clientes y asegurar los vestuarios y taquillas con un teclado que requiera un código de entrada.
* *Mejora de la seguridad:* Debe haber guardias de seguridad especializados durante las horas de funcionamiento.
* *Bloqueo a clientes problemáticos*: Mantener una lista de clientes que presuntamente han cometido delitos de tráfico sexual, prostitución, promoción de la prostitución y actos de violencia contra artistas y prohibirles la entrada al establecimiento durante tres años.
* *Capacitación para empleados que no sean artistas* para minimizar el comportamiento poco profesional de los trabajadores de los establecimientos de entretenimiento para adultos y permitirles apoyar a los artistas en momentos de conflicto.
* *Eliminación de sistemas financieros injustos*: Las reglas eliminan los sistemas que responsabilizaban a los artistas para adultos de la mayor parte de las tarifas del establecimiento. Permite a los trabajadores conservar sus propinas y gratificaciones y no revelar las cantidades.
* *Mejora del proceso de quejas*: Garantiza que las quejas se investiguen y facilita que los trabajadores se comuniquen con L&I.

“Como cualquier otro trabajador del estado, los artistas para adultos merecen seguridad en el lugar de trabajo y protección contra las prácticas laborales desleales”, dijo Celeste Monahan, subdirectora de Prevención del Fraude y Normas de Empleo de L&I. “Estas nuevas reglas garantizan que la seguridad y la igualdad de condiciones sean la norma”.

L&I celebró reuniones con las partes interesadas y audiencias públicas en las que participaron artistas para adultos y miembros del sector para recabar opiniones sobre las reglas propuestas. En los próximos meses seguirán aportando información sobre la implementación y los recursos, a medida que entren en vigor las reglas actualizadas.
