You can help stop it with your matched GivingTuesday gift now.
Before midnight, double down against misinformation and hate
DOUBLE YOUR GIFT
Dear Friend,
The trans community is fighting an epidemic of assault — misinformation about their lives and health care are being used as unchecked talking points. Politicians have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on anti-trans ads, and discrimination against the community, like bathroom bans, is being codified. Even parents who support their trans children are under attack.
According to GLAAD's Accelerating Acceptance study, only 30% of Americans say they personally know a transgender person. That lack of familiarity can breed distrust and hostility — and it's why GLAAD is working to close the information gap. After personal relationships, the second key driver of acceptance is entertainment media. That's why we're fighting for accurate and authentic representation in TV and films by creating opportunities for the LGBTQ community to share their own stories.
I hope you'll take advantage of our GivingTuesday match and put an end to the spread of misinformation. Your gift will double in impact to support GLAAD's programs — but only if you give by midnight tonight.
Our News and Rapid Response team supports advocates around the country who are fighting for acceptance.
When there's an attack against the LGBTQ community — like the attack against Nex Benedict earlier this year — we're on the phone or on the ground as soon as possible to work with local partners, coordinate media appearances, and support those affected to ensure the story is being told — accurately, inclusively, authentically — by reporters.
Across the country, advocates are making a real difference in their communities, whether they're at state capitals working on policy, or going door-to-door to meet with lawmakers and voters. Our job is to make sure their work gets the media attention it deserves, that LGBTQ people are reflected and represented as the neighbors, family, friends, classmates, and colleagues we all are. We must be seen and heard to stop misinformation before it spreads.
Please join the fight now with double the impact. We're hearing the death rattle of bigotry, but only you can slay misinformation. Don't wait.
Thank you,
Barbara Simon (she/her)
Director of News and Rapid Response
