John,
Lobbyists for billionaires and corporate giants are blanketing Capitol Hill, determined to secure bigger tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. These tax breaks are being sold as “pro-growth,” but they’re just another trickle-down gimmick meant to hand even more wealth and power to the ultra-rich at the expense of working families.
Here’s what’s at stake: the programs millions of Americans rely on, like Medicare, Social Security, and public education, face cuts to make up for the trillions of dollars these tax breaks would drain from the federal budget. Billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, who pay effective tax rates lower than many teachers and nurses, would gain even more power to rig the system in their favor.
Over the past five years, as corporations enjoyed lower tax rates from the first Trump tax scam, they spent an astonishing $4.4 trillion on stock buybacks and dividends to enrich CEOs and wealthy shareholders — seven times what they paid in federal income taxes.[1] While schools crumble, healthcare costs soar, and wages stagnate, income and wealth inequality continue to rise due to tax policies written by Wall Street lobbyists. Now, these same wealthy and corporate interests are spending millions of dollars lobbying to make these giveaways permanent.[2]
At Americans for Tax Fairness, we’re fighting back. We’ve mobilized Americans nationwide to demand fair tax policies, exposed corporate tax schemes, and pushed for transformative policies like the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax. But with Wall Street pouring unlimited sums into lobbying campaigns ahead of the 2025 tax fight, the battle is only intensifying.
While they're building a government, of, by, and for the billionaires, we're your voice on Capitol Hill fighting for a fair economy and fair taxes. This Giving Tuesday, donate $25, $50, or whatever you can to power the fight for tax fairness.
Wall Street’s lobbying efforts are all about buying political power to keep billionaires' taxes as low as possible. This rampant billionaire greed is not just a threat to our economy, it’s a threat to our democracy. In this year’s elections alone, 150 billionaire families spent over $1.9 billion to influence the outcomes.[3]
The 2017 Trump tax scam cost the U.S. $2 trillion, with the lion’s share of benefits going to the ultra-rich and corporations.[4] If that money had been invested in public services, it could have fully funded universal childcare for a decade, built millions of affordable housing units, or provided free college tuition to every student in America.
Instead, those billions have been diverted into private jets, mega-yachts, and anonymous “dark money” political donations that allow billionaires to manipulate elections and block policies that benefit working families.
With your help, we can challenge this rigged system, demand accountability, and fight for a tax system and economy that works for working people.
