[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
The only thing we’re certain of with the incoming Trump administration is that it is going to be even more corrupt and full of abuses than the last.
He’s already appointed 12 cabinet members and senior administration officials who held events at Mar-a-Lago, lining his pockets as they curried favor with him during the campaign.
He’s already tapped three of his personal lawyers from his criminal trials for posts within the Department of Justice.
And he’s pivoted from Matt Gaetz (who was investigated by the DOJ and House Ethics Committee for sex trafficking) to former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his pick for US attorney general.
We have a history with Bondi that goes all the way back to 2016, when we filed a complaint against the Trump Foundation for illegally giving $25,000 to a political organization associated with Bondi while her office was reportedly considering joining a lawsuit involving Trump University.
We also have a history with Gaetz—we sued back in May to get the DOJ records explaining why he was not criminally charged, and we’ll keep fighting for those for as long as it takes.
We’ve been tracking Trump’s threats to weaponize the justice system against his enemies and treat the DOJ like his personal lawyers, and we’ve been calling out the politicians who spend campaign money at Trump properties for years.
Trump’s appointments and conflicts of interest are not surprising to us at CREW because we’ve been tracking them and following Trump’s threats for years. But we’re not just sitting back counting the issues, we’re doing things about them.
We’re the ones who sued Trump over the Emoluments Clauses during his first term. And we’re the ones who went to the Supreme Court to enforce Trump’s disqualification from office for incitement of insurrection.
Whether that’s filing lawsuits, complaints or op-eds with the New York Times, CREW is a critical voice for ethics. If you can support our work shining a light on escalating corruption and abuses, this is the time to do it.
