News & Observer: As protesters shout, NC Senate Republicans override Cooper veto of powers-stripping bill [[link removed]]
Opponents of voting rights are already assaulting our democracy, John. Vote suppressors here in North Carolina are doing all they can to strip the incoming governor of power and codify their control before they lose their legislative supermajority, all because they didn't win all the elections they wanted.
Check out what this bill does:
* Transfers the power to appoint members of the State Board of Elections from incoming Gov-elect Josh Stein (D) to incoming State Auditor-elect Dave Boliek (R).
* Restricts the governor's ability to fill judicial vacancies, forcing them to choose from a list provided by the unelected officials of the departing judge's party.
* Removes the seats of two County Superior Court judges (in Wake and Forsyth counties) after those judges repeatedly ruled against suppressive election law changes.
* Prohibits the State Attorney General from participating in lawsuits that would invalidate action by the state Assembly, even in the defense of citizen's rights.
* Reduces the ballot "curing" time -- where ballots with simple mistakes can be corrected by the voter -- from nine days to three.
That's not all -- t his bill attacks the roles of the state education superintendent and the lieutenant governor, makes the State Highway Patrol an independent agency that the legislature controls, and more -- but you get the idea. If opponents of voting rights can't win at the ballot box they'll codify their power however else they can .
Please, we have to fight this bill on the ground and in the courts, plus be ready for whatever suppressive bills come when new legislative sessions start in less than a month. Will you chip in $25 or whatever you can right now? >> [[link removed]]

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
