Some of the LGBTQ+ young people who reach out to The Trevor Project need to hide who they are because being out isn’t safe. They feel like they have no one to turn to — not one affirming parent, teacher, coach, or other supportive adult. And they can't even imagine a future where they can live as their true selves.

We learned from our 2024 National Survey that 90% of LGBTQ+ young people expressed how their well-being was negatively impacted by recent politics. After analyzing the full day of post-election conversations across our Crisis Services team, we saw an overall volume increase of over 700% on November 6, compared to weeks prior.

Our crisis counselors are here to let LGBTQ+ young people know that there’s a world of people who will embrace them for who they are. Trevor offers this support because it can be life-saving. When LGBTQ+ young people report feeling accepted by just one adult, their odds of attempting suicide are significantly lower. In many instances, by more than 40% according to Trevor research.
