We have made incredible progress in recent years, and can’t afford to lose momentum now. Everyday, 327 people are shot, 117 of them will die. That’s just over 39,000 deaths in 2024 this year. The need for action has never been more urgent.
But we are not powerless in the face of this crisis. We have pushed to pass Extreme Risk Protection Orders, a life-saving policy that requires a permit to purchase firearms, ensuring background checks are done before a gun is sold, not after.
This commonsense policy has been proven to:
- Reduce firearm-related deaths;
- Curb the trafficking of guns to criminals shortly after purchase; and
- Lower the number of firearms traced back to criminals across state lines.
We know this commonsense policy and the rest of our legislative agenda will save lives. But we won’t be able to get this done without your support.
