An Update from INC-5 🌏

Dear Friends of 5 Gyres,

After a long week in Busan, Korea, our research team is traveling home without a Global Plastics Treaty. Despite an overwhelming majority of countries calling for an ambitious treaty, stall tactics from a small group of oil-producing countries delayed negotiations.

Now more than ever, it’s imperative that world leaders heed the research and make fact-based decisions for the health of our shared planet. 5 Gyres’ Marcus Eriksen and Lisa Erdle were on the ground at INC-5 to provide scientific expertise as part of the Scientists’ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty. Join us next week as Marcus, Lisa, and leading scientists share perspectives from the treaty negotiations, insights from key research, and what we can expect as we look to INC-5.2 and beyond.
