Dear friend,
The so-called “War on Drugs,” AKA a war on people — our people — continues to devastate communities across the U.S., disproportionately impacting Black, Indigenous, Latinx/e, and queer people. It fuels cycles of poverty, criminalization, and trauma while deepening health disparities for these historically underserved populations. At NHRC, we’re determined to break these cycles and offer life-saving harm reduction services with dignity, care, and compassion.
Today, on GivingTuesday, we’re asking you to fuel the movement for harm reduction by helping us grow our capacity to meet the rising demand for services.
Our call-to-action is urgent: Every day, lives are at stake. With each dollar, we’re able to reach more people, save more lives, and move closer to a future where harm reduction is accessible to everyone who needs it. Please give now to make harm reduction available, impactful, and inclusive for all communities.
Here’s what we do and why your support today matters:
-We train healthcare providers and social workers to deliver compassionate, non-stigmatizing care to people who use drugs, ensuring they receive the respect and care they deserve.
-We empower syringe services programs (SSPs) nationwide: SSPs are at the forefront of harm reduction but these organizations face increasing challenges, especially in today’s complex political landscape. With your support, we can provide SSPs with critical technical assistance, tools, and resources to expand their life-saving work.
-We educate lawmakers to advance harm reduction policy: Harm reduction is rarely prioritized in policy, and we’re changing that. By educating lawmakers, we’re working toward a future where harm reduction is a recognized public health strategy in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
-We expand overdose prevention programs to save lives: Overdose prevention is essential to reducing accidental deaths. With your support, we can grow these programs, ensuring more people have access to the tools needed to stop overdoses in their communities.
For 30 years, NHRC has supported and partnered with communities impacted by HIV, hepatitis C, and overdose, creating community-driven solutions that work. We believe people who use drugs are experts in their own experiences, and we provide tools to help them live safer lives. But the demand for these services is outpacing our resources.
By donating today, you make a direct impact on NHRC’s ability to save lives, expand vital services, and ensure every community has the support they need. Your donation fuels our training programs, supports SSPs, empowers our policy work, and helps prevent overdose deaths nationwide.
Today, on GivingTuesday, the global day of giving, work alongside us. Your support isn’t just a gift — it’s a life-saving investment in a future where harm reduction is accessible, stigma-free, and seen as a core public health strategy. Together, we can break down barriers to care and expand these essential services, ensuring everyone who needs harm reduction has access no matter where they live.
Let’s grow together, save lives, and invest in the future of harm reduction.
With gratitude and in solidarity,
