Dear John,
This year on #GivingTuesday, we ask for your support for low-wage workers around the world who are building power across borders, sectors, and supply chains to transform the global economy. As we reckon with rising authoritarianism, deepening inequality, an accelerating climate crisis, and burgeoning regional conflicts, workers and unions are driving the fight for a fair economy and for democratic principles globally.
Today, on #GivingTuesday, can we count on you to support GLJ’s work and stand with workers around the world in their fight for justice?
This year, we announced that we will be known as Global Labor Justice, weaving together foundational programs anchored by the International Labor Rights Forum, U.S. Leap, and others. And we adopted a new logo with a megaphone showing our commitment to amplify the demands and power of workers, unions, and movements. We marked this milestone on International Workers Day, surrounded by friends and allies in the U.S. and global labor movement who join us in our mission to deliver bold new strategies that help workers win across the challenges inherent in global value chains, across labor migration corridors and through extractive financialization.
What will not change is our commitment to draw on the deep history and experience of board, staff, and partners to advance worker organizing and hold governments, employers, multinationals, and investors accountable to fundamental labor rights.
We ask for your continued solidarity over the next year as we stand with:
Indonesian migrant fishers working under brutal conditions in Taiwan’s deepwater fishing fleet who continue to lead the Wi-Fi Now for Fishers Rights! Campaign so that all fishers can practice their fundamental rights while in the workplace;
Asian garment workers and unions in the Fight the Heist campaign who are fighting for a living wage to ensure that the rampant wage theft and other exploitative practices that workers in Nike supply chains experienced throughout the Covid-19 pandemic can never happen again;
Seasonal farmworkers in Honduras and throughout Latin America who are demanding job security, labor rights, and freedom from retaliation at Fyffes and other farms that provide fruit and produce to grocery stores in the US, EU, and elsewhere;
Cotton Campaign partners who are holding the line to sustain early signs of forced labor reform in Uzbekistan’s cotton sector;
And many more workers and unions around the world.
Mark #GivingTuesday with a donation towards building a global labor movement anchored by low-wage, women, and migrant workers.
