When my friends at It Gets Better reached out and asked if I’d post about this year’s end-of-year fundraising campaign, it was an easy yes. When they told me the theme was “Joy Rebellion,” I knew I had to do more. Because if there’s one thing this world desperately needs right now, it’s joy.

Growing up as a queer kid is rarely “easy.” But finding moments that make you feel seen, supported, and alive makes it better. Organizations like It Gets Better are committed to giving LGBTQ+ youth those experiences every day. They’re empowering tomorrow’s leaders and giving them the freedom to dream big and feel strong.

Earlier this year, I had the incredible honor of dancing on stage at the Oscars with my fellow castmates from the film Barbie. Dancing has always been a lifeline for me, a way to feel free and express myself. But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that passion would lead to performing on the Oscars stage — with Ryan Gosling, no less!

That’s the magic of discovering what makes you come alive: it can take you to extraordinary places. And that’s why organizations like It Gets Better are more essential than ever. The world can be heavy, stressful, and sometimes downright unfair — even more so when those in power try to make you feel like you don’t matter.
