Dear John,
We are reaching out to ask for your support at a crucial time. Lawyers Defending American Democracy has a special role and mission in the nonprofit rule of law community, but our voice cannot survive without your contribution.
LDAD is more determined than ever to meet the challenges ahead. We continue to produce impactful work with minimal resources, but over the next months, the need for our work will be greater than ever.
We plan to address these challenges in a variety of ways. For example:
* We will expand our compelling focus on Project 2025 [[link removed]] , the extremist blueprint for dismantling the justice system and federal agencies, and that seeks to erase important legal rights. We now know that the architects of this manifesto will serve in key roles to implement an agenda that seeks to eliminate statutes, rules, norms, and freedoms that have been built over decades during Republican and Democratic administrations alike.
* We will speak out to support Senators of both parties who are resisting efforts to circumvent the Senate’s constitutional role in approving appointees to the Executive Branch.
* We will continue our focus on the Supreme Court and will speak out when it fails to enforce its own ethics code, issues opinions that reflect an extreme agenda while abandoning long-held precedents, and subverts transparency through an over-reliance on its “Shadow Docket.”
* We have plans to expand our outreach to lawyers and bar associations across the country, seeking their active engagement in protecting the rule of law, their support of LDAD’s Democracy Commitment [[link removed]] , and providing other ways for lawyers to fulfill their obligation to the justice system at a time when it has never been more critical.
* Our accountability work will continue through filing, where appropriate, ethics complaints [[link removed]] when there is evidence that lawyers in public roles have strayed from obligations to their oath and to applicable Rules of Professional Responsibility in ways that threaten democracy and the rule of law.
* We have successfully launched and are growing Students Defending American Democracy [[link removed]] , a national pledge campaign designed to promote the civic engagement of college students.
* We are planning webinars, undertaking presentations at programs and conferences, and in other ways expanding our outreach.
Our agenda is ambitious and necessary, and we need your help to achieve these goals. We are grateful to our many supporters who have donated, volunteered expertise, and shared questions and concerns about threats to democracy and the rule of law in the United States. Please donate today to this end-of-year fundraising drive.
