I know what it’s like to feel uncertain about the future. After being shot in the head, it would’ve been easy for me to give in to despair. But even on the toughest days, I held onto hope and turned my hope into action. We must meet this moment with hope and action, too.

I won’t sugarcoat it: The work ahead won’t be easy. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to roll back lifesaving gun safety measures, and many state legislatures will try to do the same. Meanwhile, the gun lobby has doubled its lawsuits against the commonsense gun safety laws that the vast majority of Americans support.

But now is not the time to give in. Now is the time to show up for each other and our movement.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you on Giving Tuesday, John.
