Major Accomplishments
After being recognized by the White House in 2023, We Are Many-United Against Hate (WAM-UAH) has made significant strides forward in 2024, and is entering 2025 well-positioned for further growth. To help build on this work, WAM-UAH has received grants from a number of sources, including the Green Bay Packers Foundation and Evjue Foundation, and is seeking further financial support to sustain this momentum.
Specifically, gifts would enable WAM-UAH to continue growth in these two areas:
1) To spread the message of Unity, WAM-UAH relies on real-life stories. Toward this end, the organization has increased its network of individuals who were once involved with or targeted by hate groups, such as the KKK and neo-Nazis. WAM-UAH has been working with these individuals to share their powerful stories with a range of audiences, from high school students to adults in Wisconsin and beyond, including New York City. Further financial support for travel and logistics would help to continue making these impactful speakers available.
2) WAM-UAH recognizes that our greatest promise involves empowering young people to strengthen the message of Unity in our schools and foster supportive school environments. WAM-UAH, which began 2024 with a handful of high school chapters, held its first student summit last February and its first educator planning session in August, working with partners that include the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and Wisconsin Humanities Council. The recruitment of new chapters has accelerated and preparations are underway to host two student summits (northern and southern Wisconsin) in February 2025. Further financial support would enable the organization to move forward with efforts to engage students, who in turn will serve as effective ambassadors for engaging with their communities.
