We are thrilled to announce the launch of Government and Politics: Civics for the American Experiment a core resource designed for on-level high school and AP government courses. This resource is a dynamic guide for informed citizenry. The content the role of government within civil society, examining the workings of the U.S. government and the power we hold in shaping it. This text seeks to answer the question: How can a system of self-governance support American ideals?

How is this resource designed?

It engages students in the theory and practice of governance, exploring the what, why, and how of the American government.
It is available as printable texts OR a fully-digital resource which is sharable via links or through any LMS.
It consists of document versions and question sets for both AP and on-level students.
It contains primary source activities, thought-provoking essays, case studies, and critical debates.
It includes immersive table-top games that engage students directly with founding principles and government operations.
Its Genially-based, inter-active graphics give students an approachable way to explore complex topics and reinforce their learning about complex topics.

How Much Does this Resource Cost?

Nothing. This resource is FREE and will remain that way. We are committed to being a fully OER provider. Lesson plans are available free-of-charge and students can access the material with or without a website account.

What is Available Now?

Units 1-3 are ready for educators to explore on our website today! Additional units that cover the Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, Political Participation and Elections, and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties will be available for the 2025-26 school year and will be online by April 2025.

Unit 1: Foundation of American Self-Government: Help students understand how the Framers built our government based on Founding principles and civic virtues.

It contains over a dozen primary sources, inter-active graphics, an inter-active student quiz titled "Would You Be a Federalist or Anti-Federalist?", and a case study on the principle of limited government.

Unit 2: Federalism: Using case studies, this unit showcases how the levels of government interact. It also contains our first-ever print and play table-top card game that explores the views of the Federalist and Anti-Federalist. The card game will be available for purchase in January our the BRI Store.

Unit 3: The Legislative Branch: Analyze the Constitutional role of the House of Representative and Senate as representatives for the people. The lessons in this unit highlight the importance of separation of powers and checks and balances.

Among it's many activities, you will find two additional card games (Party Favors and Give Get), graphics that showcase the complexity of the Legislative Process, and a checks and balances case study.

Each unit of this resource will be supported with an introductory video to help guide students through the pivotal concepts contained within.

Additional videos that define key terms and explore the inter-workings of Capitol Hill will also be available to support the content of the first three units later this month.
