That’s great news because we’re expecting a wave of new and even stricter voter ID laws in 2025. Every new or changing voter ID law means we need to increase our voter outreach work and help thousands more voters get an ID — and that takes a great deal of time and money.

There are many terrific organizations asking for your support on #GivingTuesday, but here’s why I believe you should include VoteRiders in your #GivingTuesday plans:

IDs transform lives. We started this work because we saw that getting an ID was increasingly a barrier to voting. But what we’ve learned along the way is that IDs change lives well beyond voting — helping people secure employment and housing, access medical care and government assistance, travel, and so much more. Our free ID services allow us to access a wide range of partner organizations that are less accessible to other voting-focused organizations, such as shelters and food pantries, because our services are life-changing and crucial for the vulnerable communities they serve.

It can take a long time to get an ID. We work year-round, every year, helping people get an ID. That’s because it can sometimes take months to get the underlying documents like a birth certificate or marriage license. If we waited until just before each election, it would be too late for many.

We are expecting a wave of new ID laws in 2025. We’re already seeing new and more strict voter ID laws introduced in statehouses, and we may see federal-level voter ID bills emerge when the new Congress is sworn in next year. When new laws pass, we need to increase our outreach and help the communities most likely to be impacted.
