One World Week has come to an end for another year! We’ve had a fantastic week empowering young people to take action for positive change through connecting local and global justice issues, and supporting youth workers to take them on this critical journey. Find out what we got up to!

Programme for Government must invest in young people and youth work services
Ahead of the General Election, we called on the next government to provide young people with adequate access to youth services and to implement policies that improve their lives. As negotiations to form the new government begin, we’ll be lobbying to make sure any new programme for government addresses the issues facing youth workers and young people over the coming weeks.

Building Blocks for Wellbeing Video Series
The Building Blocks for Wellbeing was an initiative created during the 2020 pandemic and has grown ever since, aiming to support the health and wellbeing of the workers. Since then, this has evolved into a 9-part video series where we explore a range of topics with influential individuals who are flourishing in their fields.

ECO-UNESCO want to learn how you would like to get involved, the challenges you face, and which aspects you think are most important to address when it comes to climate change and environmental issues. This December, Belong To will host a series of events in Dublin City Centre to get you in the festive spirit! From December 10-15, you can join other LGBTQ+ young people aged 14 to 23 years old for some festive fun.

ECO-UNESCO: Registration Extended for the Young Environmentalist Awards
Calling all young people! ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) deadline has been extended to 20th December 2024. YEA is a free all-Ireland eco-action programme that empowers young people aged 10-18 to take action for a sustainable future. Whether it’s a biodiversity trail, an upcycled art project, or an energy saving campaign, there’s a way for everyone to get involved!

Foroige: Annual Volunteer Conference
Foróige volunteers from all over Ireland came together in Salthill, Galway, from 8 - 10th of November for the organisation's 52nd annual Volunteer Conference. This year’s event welcomed over 220 dedicated volunteers, celebrating their essential role in youth development across the nation.

IGG: Hi Digital in Action
On November 11th, Irish Girl Guides Senior Branch members in Killiney teamed up with older adults from their community for a special event at the Church of the Apostles. They worked together to explore new resources from Vodafone Foundation’s Hi Digital Programme, which builds on the existing 7-lesson curriculum. The sessions empowered participants to use their devices for everyday tasks such as tracking public transport, enjoying streaming platforms like YouTube and RTÉ Player, and staying connected with loved ones.

Are your students passionate and eager to find ways to protect our planet? Dive into ECO-UNESCO's series of engaging environmental workshops tailored for young individuals aged 10-18! Their workshops offer hands-on activities, discussions, and expert-led sessions. Topics include: Fashion Focus, Exploring Ecology and Biodiversity, Climate Action, Waste Warriors and more.

ActionAid: ActionTalks Competition
ActionAid invites young people aged 14 to 18 across Ireland to participate in ActionTalks, a speechwriting competition. This year, participants will explore the climate crisis, women’s leadership during emergencies, and the role of Official Development Aid (ODA) and women’s rights organisations. The competition encourages innovative, well-researched speeches, offering a €50 voucher for regional winners and a €500 voucher for the first-place winner, plus €100 for their teacher. Deadline: 24 January 2025
