An updated report by nonprofit A+ Schools suggests that chronic absenteeism in Pittsburgh Public Schools is gradually decreasing. The lower rates are attributed in part to a partnership between A+ and PPS. A+ Schools paired with Everyday Labs, an organization that provides intervention strategies, such as nudges and text messages, to reduce chronic absenteeism. 

Also, Carnegie Mellon's sixth president Richard Cyert is often seen as a trailblazer in the Pittsburgh community and one of the minds behind the region's knowledge economy. The daughters of the late university leader recently uncovered more of Cyert's roots, including his role in helping to desegregate Fox Chapel.
