John – Giving Tuesday is tomorrow. It’s a day for generosity, advocacy, and support for the causes that mean the most to all of us.
And for us at Teachers Unify, it’s a uniquely special opportunity to amplify our fight for safer schools. To tell people why teachers like us are unifying to end gun violence.
I’m about to tell you more about Teachers Unify and share why we need your support this Giving Tuesday, but if you’re short on time, please give a few dollars to become a Giving Tuesday Early Donor and fund our work amplifying teachers’ voices in the fight to end gun violence >> ([link removed])
So John, why this movement, and why now?
1. We’re teacher-founded and teacher-led, and we know the gun violence epidemic has touched the lives of every teacher. Two of our co-founders are school shooting survivors, and every teacher we know has been through a lockdown drill, answered unanswerable questions from students, or faced a direct threat at their school.
2. We’re tired of politicians suggesting “solutions” that won’t help us. We know best. We know what we need to keep ourselves and our students safe. And if no one will ask us, we’re going to step up and tell them.
3. We don’t get to move on. When the cameras and politicians leave, our school communities still live with the aftermath of a tragedy. We need a way to keep our voices in the conversation after the initial burst of outrage and attention.
That’s why we started Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence – because we cannot teach like this, and we cannot live like this. It’s time for teachers to have a voice and lead the fight to end gun violence.
But here’s the truth: Our long term plan – hosting summits, turning educators into advocates, and bringing more teachers into this fight – is going to cost a lot of money.
Giving Tuesday is our biggest fundraising day of the year. But we’re teachers, not fundraisers, and the gun lobby is banking on us to fail.
So we’re relying on everyday people like you to fuel our fight. And if just 150 folks donate before Giving Tuesday, we’ll be able to crush tomorrow’s goal with time to spare.
