New SCOTUS cases could upend elections
* Republicans asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review cases out of Illinois and Montana that could upend election administration in the United States. In a new YouTube video, Marc and Democracy Docket’s Paige Moskowitz discuss ([link removed]) the impact of these cases.
* In November, Illinois Republican Rep. Michael Bost asked ([link removed]) the Supreme Court to revive his twice-dismissed legal challenge to state law that allows election officials to count timely postmarked or certified mail-in ballots for up to two weeks after an election.
* In August, Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen (R) asked ([link removed]) the nation’s highest court to consider the radical independent state legislature ([link removed]) theory as reasoning to uphold two Montana voter suppression laws. The theory promotes the idea that only state legislatures have the power to regulate federal elections.
