Indivisibles,

We've got a ticking clock hanging over our heads -- just 18 days left in this Congressional session and 49 days until Trump is sworn into office and begins filling his administration with the architects of Project 2025. President Biden, VP Harris, and Democrats in Congress have a shot, right here, right now, to fortify the barricades around our rights and democracy. And yeah, we absolutely expect them to take it.

There’s PLENTY the White House can get across the finish line right now, but we’re really looking to see them do the following:

Get that IRA money moving: The Inflation Reduction Act was Biden’s landmark legislation that has created over 330,000 new green jobs, lowered home energy costs, and made prescription drugs more affordable. Now the Biden administration must distribute as much of the funding for these projects as possible before Trump and his coterie of climate deniers take a hatchet to green projects.

Publish the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA): The ERA has cleared the threshold for ratification, but it’s been held up because of GOP opposition and legal debates. Biden has the authority and the responsibility to instruct the National Archivist to publish the ERA as the 28th Amendment and should do so before leaving office. While not a silver bullet, the ERA could provide a critical tool for combating discrimination against women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people nationwide.

This is also going to be a very busy month on the hill, where we’ve got opportunities to confirm Biden’s nominees while we still control the Senate (see our to-do’s) and a responsibility to stop the Republican House of Representatives from jamming poison pills into must-pass year-end legislation. Here’s some of what we’ll be watching:

Government funding expires on December 20 and GOP Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that he wants to pass a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government funded until early next year. Democrats need to stay alert for any Republican shenanigans -- they should not lend support to any bill that includes painful funding cuts or harmful policy riders.

Congress must also pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) before the year ends. We’re keeping an eye out as negotiations continue because this is another opportunity for Republicans to try and sneak through awful bills like H.R. 9495 (the nonprofit killer).

We’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest actions you can take to maximize the impact of the final weeks of this administration, but for now, check out our weekly to-dos:

 Your weekly to-dos

  1. Tell your representative to push for the publication of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The ERA cleared the 38-state threshold for ratification in 2020, but thanks to years of legal debates and Republican obstruction, it has not been published and certified as the 28th Amendment. Call your representative today and urge them to enshrine gender equality into our Constitution by pushing for the publication of the Equal Rights Amendment.
  2. If you haven’t already, read the new Indivisible Guide. Our new “Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink” is full of information, tips, and strategies designed to help you harness your power, organize effectively, and push back as Trump seeks to undermine our democracy and impose Project 2025. Read the new guide, share it with your friends, and get ready to organize Trump and his cronies right out of power. Also: You asked, we answered. The guide is now available in downloadable and easy-to-print formats.
  3. Join our Rural Caucus Call on December 4 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. We aren’t going anywhere and we know our tenacious, raucous rural Indivisibles are in for the long haul, too. Our December Rural Caucus call will highlight the successes and accomplishments of rural Indivisible organizers in the election and delve into the new Indivisible Guide with a rural perspective.
  4. Tell your Democratic senators to fill every judicial vacancy now. The Senate needs to work around the clock for the next 18 days to confirm Biden’s judicial nominees or Trump will get the chance to fill all those vacancies with MAGA loyalists. Tell your senators you expect them to put in the long hours necessary to get pro-democracy judges confirmed.

P.S. -- This week we're kicking off our end-of-year fundraising campaign! We have a lot of work to do to prepare for an incoming Trump administration and we can't do it without your support. So, please click here to pitch in and ensure we're ready to take on the fights to come.

In our last Truth Brigade call of 2024, we’ll rekindle our hope through pragmatic planning. We’ll celebrate accomplishments, get to know one another in small groups, and launch our holiday message campaign. Coming together in community is our path to resilience.

Join our final Truth Brigade Big Truths call on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT.
