It Gets Better has been and will always be a movement for the people, by the people. It is sustained by the collective will of every investor and volunteer who believes that life for LGBTQ+ youth, no matter the situation, has the potential to improve.
Over the last 14 years, you have helped the phrase “it gets better” become synonymous with the act of keeping hope alive for so many young people struggling to discover themselves and their place in the world. But, as we all well know, there is so much more to this work than broadcasting a few words of encouragement.
It Gets Better is on a journey with young LGBTQ+ people—and we’re entering our rebellious phase!
Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles LGBTQ+ youth face in pursuit of living an authentic life, they harbor a near-endless supply of hope and joy that can be brought to the surface through mentorship, connection, and validation. Studies have shown that one affirming adult is all it takes to make a positive difference in the life of an LGBTQ+ young person – but not all youth have access to this resource in their local community.
It Gets Better is that resource for many. We can ensure that no young LGBTQ+ person makes it through adolescence without experiencing the joy of discovering themselves, the joy of connecting with others like them, or the joy of envisioning a future with limitless possibilities.
