My son is the funniest kid I know. He's also the toughest.

I've watched Billy undergo a lifetime's worth of hospital stays in his 7 years. Today, he's a silly, quirky, thriving kid, thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other team members at Children's Hospital Los Angeles whose compassion and caring is unmatched. My son, Billy, had his first open-heart surgery at CHLA when he was just three days old. At the time, it was the longest three hours of my life. It is a humbling experience to place your child's life in someone else's hands.

Earlier this year, Billy had his third successful heart surgery at CHLA. My wife, Molly, and I have met other parents at their most vulnerable and seen children facing difficult health challenges.
