Dear
SPUC supporter,
On Friday, 29th November 2024, MPs voted by 330 to 275 to give Kim Leadbeater MP's the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill a second reading. It will now pass to Committee then Report stage, with MPs given another chance to vote at third reading. This will likely take place in April.
While it is deeply disappointing that MPs approved the bill in principle, many are still worried about the details of this bill. We need to lobby MPs to properly consider the detail, and vote the bill down at third reading.
It is still possible to defeat this bill, but it will require a number of MPs changing their vote. This means we need to keep up a polite and constructive relationship with our MPs, even if we are upset about how they voted.
We also need to encourage those MPs who voted with us to stay strong in their opposition.
Please contact your MP using the tool on our website. The tool will tell you which way your MP voted, and provides an appropriate template. If your MP voted against, it is important to thank them and urge them to keep up their opposition. If they voted in favour or abstained, they need to be politely urged to examine the problems of this bill in detail and vote it down.
