We blinked and it’s already December!

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a day when people come together to support nonprofits doing impactful work all over the world.

If building a safer internet for kids, teens, and everyone is what you care about, would you donate to CCDH to keep holding social media companies and their bosses accountable in 2025?

Here are a few reasons why you should consider supporting CCDH:

• In 2024, we turned our attention to elections happening worldwide and exposed how social media platforms enabled the spread of AI image and voice deepfakes of candidates, and violent abuse against women running for office.

• In March, we defeated Elon Musk’s baseless lawsuit, with the California judge saying that X Corp.’s case against us was about punishing CCDH for our speech (aka our research on his platform). We continued to investigate Musk and X and found that the billionaire used his platform as a megaphone to spread false and misleading claims about the U.S. election. On top of that, we showed that X’s fact-checking Community Notes failed to counter election disinformation.

• In the UK, we showed that X helped fan the flames of disorder by amplifying disinformation about the Southport tragedy spread by known bad actors like Tommy Robinson.

Why is our work important? The spread of hate and disinformation online during elections and other major events can mislead people, encourage distrust and anger, and lead to offline violence, such as during the UK riots. Ultimately, hate and lies amplified by social media platforms can threaten our democracy.
