Dear John,

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, and while I know you’re likely being asked by many organizations right now for support, I hope you will consider PFLAG National in your giving plans.

My name is Angel Kearns (she/her), and I’ve proudly served as the Chapter Services Senior Coordinator at PFLAG National for over two years. In this role, I support chapters and volunteer leaders across the country, helping to launch new chapters and assisting existing ones with the administrative challenges of running a small nonprofit.

This work is deeply personal to me, as it is to so many of our chapter leaders. People often ask me what my favorite part of working at PFLAG is, and my answer is always the same: it’s the people (cliché, but true!). They give me endless hope that young queer people today will grow up with the love and support of their families, no matter what. PFLAG leaders show incredible compassion—not just for their own families but for their entire communities, which need support now more than ever.

Following the election, we’ve seen a significant spike in interest for starting new PFLAG chapters—28 requests in just a few weeks compared to the usual 2–3 per week. Additionally, attendance has noticeably increased in PFLAG Connects: Communities virtual meetings, including those designed for Black/African American, Latino, AAPI, and military families, as well as those for families with gender-diverse loved ones and for grandparents.

Over the past two years, 66 new PFLAG chapters were founded, many in small, conservative, rural communities where PFLAG is often the only safe space for LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones to gather. Will you make an early Giving Tuesday gift to PFLAG National today to help us provide vital resources to support our nearly 350 chapters across the country?

Many of our chapter leaders, members, and supporters are feeling a deep sense of fear right now—for themselves, their families, and their communities—but they’re also channeling that fear into a renewed determination to take action. Chapters are turning to PFLAG National for critical support, asking for resources to keep meetings safe, build community connections, advocate at school board and city council meetings, and access health care and mental health resources.

Donate to PFLAG National for Giving Tuesday and help us meet the needs of PFLAG chapters working tirelessly to support families and communities across the country.

Thank you,

Angel Kearns (she/her)
