Hi Revealer,
On Cyber Monday, we have some choices to make: Score Amazon holiday shopping deals. Or double your impact on nonprofit investigative journalism.

We happen to think it’s an easy choice: Any donation you make to The Center for Investigative Reporting today (on Cyber Monday) or tomorrow (on Giving Tuesday) will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous board member.

Every contribution will be doubled. Your $20 monthly gift has the impact of $40 a month.

That gives us twice the power to deliver the powerful, award-winning accountability journalism that you expect from us. During a time of financial uncertainty across the media landscape, this is a unique chance to have your support go twice as far in strengthening investigative reporting.

This is a good moment for Americans to ask themselves: Who really pays the price for one of Amazon’s busiest weeks of the year?

Because the answer is: Amazon’s warehouse workers.

Former CIR reporter Will Evans uncovered that Amazon’s obsession with speed has turned its warehouses into injury mills, and the rates of injury only intensified during times like Cyber Monday. Not only were Amazon’s injury rates far worse than the national average for the warehousing industry, but the company was deceptive about this problem.

The impact of our Amazon investigations are far-reaching and ongoing, including:
* Federal prosecutors and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found unsafe working conditions at six warehouse locations. As part of the same investigation, OSHA cited Amazon for 14 recordkeeping violations.
* Amazon shareholders ([link removed]) cited our reporting in their request for an independent audit into warehouse health and safety (though the proposal ultimately failed ([link removed]) ).
* California, New York, Minnesota, Washington, and Oregon passed laws prohibiting companies like Amazon from enforcing work quotas that prevent workers from taking bathroom breaks or doing their jobs safely. Some of the laws also empower workers to sue over unsafe quotas and any discipline they receive for not meeting them. Similar bills are in progress in other states, including Illinois and Massachusetts.
* In the wake of our investigations, US Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) released a damning report ([link removed]) showing the extent of worker injury at Amazon, including how nearly half of warehouse employees suffered some form of injury during Prime Day week in 2019.

It’s because of your support that we can pull back the curtain to reveal truths that powerful corporations like Amazon want to keep hidden. Thank you!

We have only until tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. PT to take advantage of this matching gift opportunity. So please join us now to make sure your donation is doubled.

Our reporting holds powerful institutions like Amazon accountable for the problems they cause and benefit from. As a nonprofit newsroom, we don’t answer to a corporate boardroom or a billionaire owner. Our only obligation is to the truth. And to you. Please help us continue delivering this critical public service.

Thank you,
