URGENT: In a shocking power grab, Republican leaders in the NC General Assembly are using their last few weeks with their party's Supermajority to strip power from all of the gun violence prevention champions we just voted for, and hand that power to Republicans instead.
Last week, NC Republican leadership hijacked Senate Bill 382 - a Hurricane Helene recovery bill - using it to strip powers from the incoming Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and Superintendent of Public Instruction. SB 382 instead hands those powers to Republicans, who were NOT elected to hold those powers. This anti-democratic bill also changes election rules in ways that will make it hard to count every vote in future elections. All without providing adequate resources right now that people in Western NC deeply need and have been pleading for.[1]
Governor Cooper has vetoed this power grab. Contact your NC lawmakers TODAY to ask them to sustain the Governor’s veto when they come back to Raleigh TOMORROW, December 2nd. |
