Donald Trump has pledged to take political retribution against his political opponents, including members of the watchdog press that he calls “the enemy of the people.”

We’d be fooling ourselves if we didn’t take these threats seriously.

In fact, House Republicans just passed legislation to allow Trump to unilaterally strip the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit group they choose. It’s effectively a death penalty for progressive nonprofits. If new Republican majorities ram it through in January, Common Dreams will almost certainly be in the crosshairs.

It’s a key reason why we aim to raise $50,000 before the end of Giving Tuesday to help fund our nonprofit newsroom and fight back against a federal government weaponized to crush resistance to Trump’s agenda.
