Friend,

An exciting campaign to decriminalize drugs in Oregon is in the final stretch to qualify for the November election. Instead of arrests and punishments, people who use drugs would get expanded access to treatment and recovery services.

Oregonians are working to get The Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act or IP 44 [link removed]  on the ballot. But due to COVID-19, they had to stop collecting signatures in public and urgently need your help.

Who do you know in Oregon? Please forward them this email [link removed] and encourage them to click here get the IP 44 petition as soon as possible: [link removed]

The campaign only needs 6,000 more signatures to get the initiative on the ballot, but the deadline is fast approaching. This initiative would be an important shift away from punishment to a health-based approach to drugs, and it doesn't create new taxes: it’s paid for with revenue from Oregon’s existing marijuana tax.

Drug possession is the #1 most arrested offense in the country, so this measure would have a profound impact. And we need this initiative now more than ever, because the pandemic has made jails and prisons even more dangerous than they were before, and the isolation that many people feel right now is making addiction much worse.

We need to make sure this initiative gets on the ballot. You can help us make sure it qualifies by forwarding this email and sharing the petition with people you know in Oregon. [link removed]

We’re proud to have partnered with local advocates to create this initiative. And we need your help to collect enough signatures to get it on the ballot and achieve victory in November.

Sincerely,

Theshia Naidoo
