Mitch McConnell says state and local governments hit by the coronavirus should “go bankrupt” rather than receive emergency federal aid.

Can you join Mike in calling on McConnell's Senate to provide economic relief to American families and workers instead of fast-tracking corporate bailouts and Wall Street giveaways?

Quick legislative update, John.

On Friday, the House passed The Heroes Act -- our latest COVID-19 response bill.

This pandemic continues to threaten the lives and livelihoods of millions. Small business owners, working parents who have lost their jobs, and frontline workers who continue to deliver essential services need our support, and they need it now.

This bill would put money into the American peoples’ pockets immediately. It also extends unemployment benefits, and provides hazard pay to frontline workers risking their health. It also gives much-needed loans and grants relief to small businesses.

One provision that I advocated for strongly, which was included in the bill, is more funding for state and local governments. In California's 49th, that translates into roughly $300 million for cities like Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, and other municipalities throughout North San Diego and South Orange Counties.

John, as we work to quickly defeat this virus so we can reopen our economy safely and responsibly, my number one priority is helping the working families in my district and across the country.

What we cannot do, as Mitch McConnell callously suggested, is “let our local governments go bankrupt.”

It's shameful that the Senate Leader is quick to offer millions to huge corporations with little oversight, but cowers at the idea of supporting the bedrock of American government. I don’t expect him to agree with every word we just passed in the House, but I draw the line at bankrupting cities while handing out corporate bailouts.

As we negotiate this relief bill, can you join me in calling on McConnell and the Senate to provide economic relief to American families and workers instead of fast-tracking corporate bailouts and Wall Street giveaways? [link removed]

Thanks for your support,

Mike
