John,

Today marks three years since the tragic shooting at Oxford High School in
Michigan, which injured seven people, and killed four students.

Like many other mass shootings, the warning signs were there. This was
preventable.

Oxford isn’t just an incident of individual failings. It showcases how the
entire system around guns is broken in this country.

We need stronger background checks, red flag laws, and the multitude of
gun safety solutions that we know work. That’s the future we’re fighting
for.

As young people, we were shaken by this tragedy but instead of letting our
feelings of hopelessness take over, we turned to action. We worked with
Oxford High School students who turned pain into power and became fierce
advocates. We’re proud to still work with many of these survivors today.

In the days that followed the shooting, March For Our Lives organizers
created a community healing event with mental health professionals, free
meals, and resources. Later, survivors and activists took to the capitol
to demand change.

Because of the years-long organizing efforts by young people in Michigan
and beyond, last year we won the first gun safety package in Michigan in
over 30 years! But we still have more to do.

We won’t forget Oxford High School. We won’t forget the victims who died
and were injured in this senseless tragedy. We continue onwards for them.

In solidarity,

Team March For Our Lives

Today and every day we honor the lives lost in Oxford, Michigan on
