We hope that you had a great Thanksgiving and that you were able to spend it with the people you care about. Thanksgiving helps remind us about what is most important in life: people. And that’s why we work to enact policy solutions that work for the people. Here is where we can start:

Tackling Inflation

While the cost of a typical Thanksgiving dinner has decreased from last year to this year, it is still 19% more expensive than it was five years ago. This is largely a consequence of out of control government spending which has flooded the economy with money leading to the problem of too much currency chasing too few goods i.e. inflation.

This devalues the dollar, meaning your hard earned money doesn’t go as far as it should. To combat inflation we must combat spending. Congress has been out of session this past week, but when they return they will need to address the issue of spending before the government funding runs out on December 20th.

Conservatives should look to cut as much spending as possible and reduce the Washington bloat that ultimately puts a burden on you. As always, Heritage Action will keep you in the loop of the latest developments on the fights over government spending.

Republican Trifecta

One of the tools available to us is budget reconciliation. Given that Republicans will soon have control of the House, Senate, and the White House they will have the opportunity to use the reconciliation process which permits the Senate to move legislation forward using 51 votes instead of the usual 60. This tool can only be used once a year.

This opens up an opportunity for conservatives to be aggressive on many of their campaign promises and deliver significant wins for the American people. Some of the issues likely to be included in a reconciliation package would be renewing and amending Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which is set to expire next year, border security and immigration measures, and even energy related provisions.
