Porn Addiction: Seeking Novelty Until Desensitized
Scientists have a name for the things humans innately find rewarding: natural reinforcers. There are two powerful natural rewards that the Internet provides in unlimited supply
—sex and novelty.
In 2010, famous musician John Mayer did an interview with Playboy where he warned that Internet pornography’s unending provision of novel virtual “mates” is causing problems in some users and their relationships. Describing his own experience, Mayer said:
"By the way, pornography? It’s a new synaptic pathway. You wake up in the morning, open a thumbnail page, and it leads to a Pandora’s box of visuals..."

Dirty Dozen List Target: Spotify
Music for everyone? More like
porn
for everyone.
You would never guess it, but Spotify,
the most popular music streaming application in the world
, is actually rife with
hardcore pornography and child sexual abuse material.
Predators have even
groomed children and teens on the app
, and still the company refuses to enforce policies to prevent these harms.
NCOSE has found what appears to be a
network
of individuals – minors and adults trading, sharing, soliciting, and posting hardcore pornography, what looked to be child sexual abuse material, deepfake pornography of female celebrities, and even self-harm imagery. Yet, the platform
still
doesn’t have a straightforward way to report these crimes and harms to the app – an industry standard that could literally save children’s lives!
