During the 2024 presidential election season, pundits, politicians and the electorate would often mispronounce Vice President Kamala Harris' first name. Atiya Irvin-Mitchell wrote about having  spent much of her life correcting (or not correcting) people's pronunciation of her name. Part of her message: If people can learn to say Russian names like Fyodor Dostoevsky and made-up names like Daenerys Targaryen, they can learn her Arabic name.
