Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats. | | Standing up for carers | 21 November was Carers Rights Day - a time to recognise the incredible work carers do across the country. The Liberal Democrats tabled a motion in Parliament to celebrate carers and highlight the challenges they face.
Fixing the social care crisis was central to our election campaign - we will always be the party of carers. We already helped secure a new right to carer’s leave last year, with the passing of the Carer’s Leave Act, and we won’t stop fighting for carers every day.
As thousands of unpaid carers face unfair repayment demands and even prosecution for earning just a few pounds over an arbitrary limit, we’re calling for urgent reform of carer’s allowance. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 5 mins | We also need broader care reforms. We oppose the Government’s national insurance hike, which will hurt small care providers, threatening care provision and putting more pressure on the NHS.
Share our call to exempt care from these damaging hikes: | | Successive governments have failed to address the social care crisis. We urge the Government to start cross-party talks now to find a lasting solution. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 4 mins | | - Ed Davey's Christmas single for carers

| | | Love Is Enough | This week, Ed Davey teamed up with the Bath Philharmonia's Young Carers' Choir to release a charity single.
Written by six young carers and former young carers, ‘Love is Enough’ is a tribute to the caring responsibilities of young carers and the bond they share with the people they care for. Having been a young carer himself for his mother, Ed got involved to help raise awareness of this issue and raise money for the Carers Trust and Bath Philharmonia.
The launch this week has already been a fabulous chance to highlight the challenges facing young carers and the support available for them – with great coverage on BBC Breakfast, the Today Programme, Radio 2, ITV News and much more.
You can help by buying and downloading the song - doing so rather than just streaming it will help boost us up the charts and raise more money for these great causes – but of course it is available on Spotify and all other streaming sites too. | | If you missed Ed’s email yesterday with more information on the single and why he wanted to get involved - you can read it here: | | | | Scrap Labour’s Bus Tax | Labour are hiking up the bus fare cap across England by 50%, hitting communities hard.
Not only will this hurt struggling town centres and high streets, just when they hoped that the years of the Conservatives' economic vandalism were over.
And it will hit bus passengers and commuters, at a time when people are struggling with the cost of living.
The Government must change course and protect the cap for bus users and commuters. Please back our campaign and share it on social media: | | | | | Lib Dem Select Committee members | We previously shared the news that three Lib Dem MPs will chair Select Committees: Alistair Carmichael for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs; Layla Moran for Health & Social Care; and Jamie Stone for Petitions.
The remaining committee members have now been revealed, and there’s plenty of Lib Dem representation throughout. Find out which committees our MPs are on here: | | | | Standing up for Ukraine | Earlier this month, Ed Davey visited Epsom’s Ukraine Hub alongside our Defence Spokesperson Helen Maguire, to speak with volunteers who are giving up their free time to send vital winter survival kits to Ukraine.
Donald Trump’s election makes our commitment to Ukraine more important than ever. Ed called for a ‘Save Ukraine’ summit in London to unlock £40 billion in frozen Russian assets and use it to give Ukraine critical support.
He also called on the Government to ‘Trump-proof’ the UK by seeking closer ties with Europe to protect UK interests. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 3 mins | | Follow us on Bluesky | The Lib Dems are now on Bluesky! Follow us to stay up to date with everything we’re up to. | | See our Starter Pack to follow our MPs and other key Party figures: | | | | Trans Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance | From 13 - 19 November, we marked Trans Awareness Week, a chance to celebrate trans people, acknowledge the challenges they face, and reflect on how we can improve their lives. The week concluded with Trans Day of Remembrance to honour those lives lost to anti-trans violence and discrimination.
Liberal Democrats will always stand up for the rights of everyone in the LGBT+ community, including trans people.

We took seats from the Conservatives in Westmorland & Furness and Hampshire and from Labour in Sheffield, West Oxfordshire and Edinburgh.
We also held a number of seats: in Bradwell and Broughton, both in Milton Keynes, and one each in Rutland, Highland, and Somerset.
Many council elections are seeing Lib Dem candidates run for the first time, reflecting our growing progress in giving everyone the chance to vote Lib Dem.
Congratulations to all those elected and thank you to everyone who stood but didn’t win this time. | | | Work for Us | We’ve got a wide variety of vacancies - both paid and voluntary - currently available.
