Team — With November coming to a close, we want to share a roundup of the hard work Mayor Bass has focused on this month:

Supporting Our Homeless Vets: On Veteran’s Day, Mayor Bass highlighted progress made to bring more homeless Veterans inside. This year, she worked to change federal policy so that disability benefits would not exclude a Vet from qualifying for affordable housing. The Mayor also worked to secure vouchers designed specifically to address this issue. Through her work against senseless federal bureaucracy, to secure more housing vouchers for veterans, and to move people inside from encampments, the official 2024 Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Point-In-Time Count reported a 22.9% decline in veteran homelessness in Los Angeles.

Making L.A. Safer: Mayor Bass swore in LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, whom she appointed because of his commitment to innovation, growing the ranks of the department, and increasing trust with the community to make LA safer.

Innovative Solutions to Homelessness: Mayor Bass’ leadership has turned the corner to drive the first reduction in homelessness LA has seen in years because of her comprehensive strategy that includes new approaches to delivering services and reducing costs. This month, Mayor Bass announced a new private investment to support newly housed Angelenos find jobs, and her groundbreaking Inside Safe initiative moved people from encampments in North Hollywood, Rampart Village and Downtown into safe and secure housing paired with services.

Expanding Economic Opportunity For All Angelenos: The City of Los Angeles and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles opened the new Watts Los Angeles WorkSource Center this month. It’s an example of Mayor Bass’ commitment to helping Angelenos connect to new and life-changing career pathways that stabilize families and neighborhoods and that create a better future for LA.

Bringing Down the Cost of Housing: The Mayor’s Office held its first-ever Innovative Construction Expo to explore creative construction models to drive down cost and time it takes to build housing in Los Angeles. The Expo brought together more than 150 affordable housing developers to share cost-saving constructions practices.
Mayor Bass is delivering the change Los Angeles needs, and has much more to do. It’s up to us to make sure she can continue her work to improve our neighborhoods, make us safer and grow our economy.
