Dear John,

The rise of far-right politics, underscored by Donald Trump’s election victory earlier this month and amplified by prominent figures like Elon Musk and Nigel Farage, has exposed the vulnerabilities in our democratic systems. But at Open Britain - a small, agile team punching well above its weight - we see this as a defining moment to push for urgent and lasting reform.

A Transformative November – From Westminster to Nationwide Action:

On Monday, in partnership with Fair Vote UK, we launched Parliament’s largest-ever democracy reform group: the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections. With 109 Parliamentarians, including over 100 MPs, this cross-party coalition is now a major force for democratic change. With Fair Vote UK acting as the APPG’s official secretariat and Open Britain powering its ambitious agenda, we are perfectly positioned to deliver historic change.

Our joint report, ā€œFree But Not Fair ([link removed]) ,ā€ is already making waves with its three bold recommendations to restore public trust in politics:

1. Establishing a National Commission on Electoral Reform to modernise our voting system.
2. Closing dark money loopholes that allow hidden influence to distort our democracy and reinstating the Electoral Commission’s independence to enforce the law.
3. Forcing transparency from social media companies about their handling of ā€˜legal but harmful’ content.

These measures are a roadmap to fix a broken system - but action cannot end in Westminster.

Momentum Beyond Westminster: Building a Nationwide Movement:

As polling for our report showed, the public are demanding change, and their message is clear: they want a political system that truly works for them - and they want it before the next general election. Our lean, focused team is already working on transforming this new parliamentary momentum into nationwide grassroots action, mobilising a growing movement to ensure that reform becomes a reality.

Why Your Support Matters:

At Open Britain, our independence is our strength. Unlike others, we are answerable only to you - our supporters. We don’t rely on corporate backers or wealthy donors who attach strings to their donations. This allows us to fight for genuine reform without fear or compromise.

And we’ve shown we can deliver big results on a small budget. By creating the largest democracy reform coalition in Parliament, sparking unprecedented cross-party collaboration, and prompting a plethora of press headlines, we’ve proven that we can be trusted to turn every pound you contribute into progress towards our goals.

A Critical Moment: Help Us Cross the Finish Line

We are just £5,000 short of meeting our November target. The window for reform is open and, with sufficient resources, we can seize the opportunity that presents. With your help, we can take this fight beyond Westminster, building a mass movement capable of making an irresistible public demand for change.
