John,
On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will once again be sworn in as president.
It might seem tempting to throw up our hands and give in to despair — but for the sake of our country, for the sake of our communities, for the sake of ourselves, we know that’s not an option. We are gearing up for the long haul to fight back against Trump and the authoritarian threat posed by Republicans — and that starts by being clear-eyed about what’s in store over the next four years.
Donald Trump campaigned on a radical agenda to cut taxes for his billionaire friends, separate families and deport millions of immigrants, impose tariffs that will increase the cost of goods for working families, and cut healthcare for the poor and working class. We have no reason to think he won’t try to do all of this — and more.
With Republicans in control of all three branches of government, it won’t be easy for us to block their agenda. But we’ve seen what happens when millions of working people join together across our differences and rise up in radical solidarity when our families and communities come under attack. And that’s exactly what we plan to do for the next four years.
We are in this fight for the long haul, John. But to win, it will take all of us. Will you become a dues-paying member of the Working Families Party with a monthly donation of $10 or more today? Just about eight years ago, millions of us took to the streets to protest Trump — and we kept that energy sustained through all four years of Trump’s first term.
We were able to stave off some of the worst parts of his agenda, including his attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
But we know that what worked in 2016 won’t necessarily work this time around.
- First, we need to defend against hopelessness and cynicism. That’s exactly what the authoritarians are hoping to make us feel.
- Then, we need to build a true multiracial working class movement, and slow down, thwart, and ultimately defeat Trump’s Project 2025 agenda.
- Finally, we need to win back power in 2026 and 2028 — because we know that Trump and Republicans have no solutions to the pain many of their own working class supporters are feeling right now.
Whether it is through mobilizing to defend our communities, growing our movement, electing more champions who will resist MAGA at the state and local level, or laying the groundwork to retake Congress in 2026 — we are in all of this for the long haul. Are you with us, John?
We’ve defied the odds before, and we can do it again. Will you help sustain this movement by becoming a dues-paying member of the Working Families Party with a monthly donation of $10 or more?
