Even before this crisis, the battle for LGBTQ equality was far from over. Mitch McConnell still refuses to step up and ensure that everyone is treated equally under the law -- no matter who you love or how you identify. And violence against transgender Americans, especially transgender women of color, continues to haunt communities all over the U.S.
And now, it's clear this pandemic is having a disproportionate impact on our LGBTQ friends and neighbors in South Jersey. These folks are more likely to have lost part or all of their income, struggle with food insecurity, or be immunocompromised and lack access to affordable health care. Not to mention the discrimination they still face trying to access the medical attention they so desperately need right now.
So today, I'm asking you to join me in standing up for our LGBTQ friends and neighbors. We must demand that Congress work to ensure this disproportionately impacted community is not left behind in our response to the COVID-19 crisis.

I serve on the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus because I believe absolutely everyone -- without exception -- is entitled to the same rights and protections. Everyone deserves to live their life without fear of facing discrimination at home, in the doctor's office, at work, in restaurants, or anywhere else. And I will continue to fight to stop hate violence and any other attacks on the LGBTQ community, here at home and across the country.
Today is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, as well as the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. It also happens to mark exactly one year from when we passed the Equality Act in the House.
