Dear John:

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a safe and happy holiday with loved ones. And, I hope we can all take some time to thank the farmers and producers that work year-round to put food on our Thanksgiving tables.

This week, two Minnesota turkeys made their way to the White House to be pardoned by President Biden. The turkeys, named Peach and Blossom, were raised by Turkey Federation President Zimmerman and his son on their farm in Northfield. The pair will get to live out the rest of their days as agricultural ambassadors in Waseca, occasionally traveling for work.

If you have questions or feedback for my office, now is your chance to talk with my congressional staff directly. They can help you with issues such as passport processing, veterans’ needs, tax refunds, Social Security benefits, and also connect them with federal agencies (FEMA, the FSA, and more).

If you aren't able to make this one, keep an eye out for future mobile offices hours across the Seventh District. For any questions, please call my office at 320-403-6100.

Celebrating Expanding Mental Health Care for Veterans

Earlier this week, I went to the St. Cloud VA to be part of a ribbon cutting for the expansion of their mental health clinic. I am incredibly grateful for the work and sacrifices of our veterans and was proud to be a part of an event that continues support for their community.

After the ribbon cutting, I toured of some of the other buildings in the St. Cloud VA complex and met with VA leadership to learn more about how they help veterans at the St. Cloud facility, as well as at the other clinics in their network including in Alexandria, Brainerd, and Montevideo, and about their goals for helping even more veterans get access to quality care in the future.

Minnesota Farm Bureau Annual Meeting

I was honored to speak at the Minnesota Farm Bureau's Annual Meeting last week. While I am deeply disappointed in the Senate Ag Committee for waiting until the last possible moment to release their Farm Bill text, which also failed to meaningfully strengthen the farm safety net, I am hopeful for what is to come in 2025. With a Republican House and Senate, we will pass a Farm Bill that actually benefits our farmers and rural economies. In the Ways and Means Committee, we are working to extend the 2017 tax cuts to support family farms and small businesses. And, on the Trade Subcommittee, we are working to expand our export markets for the ag industry, looking to places like South America, who have been eager to trade with us but have been ignored by the current administration.

It was great talking with people who understand that food security is national security, and thank them for their work ahead of the most agriculturally-focused holiday of the year.
