There are certain days that stay with you for a long time, friend.

One of those days was five years ago when the Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the land. Another was when I won my congressional race as an openly gay man to represent the area I had lived in my whole life. And another one of those days was one year ago today when our Democratic House passed the Equality Act, a bill that extends federal civil rights protections to LGBTQ Americans and outlaws discrimination of any kind on the basis of sexual orientation.

As someone who grew up questioning whether or not I would be able to build the career I wanted and lead a full life, I can’t think of a better word to describe what I felt on all of these days than pride.

Now I'm running for re-election in one of the toughest districts in the country, and national Republicans have their eyes set on my seat. They know that I fight for families, not their special interests, and they've made it clear that they'll spend whatever it takes to defeat me.

I wouldn't ask if it wasn't critically important: Will you chip in $10 to my re-election campaign so I can continue fighting for equality?

I have proven that I will fight for hardworking families — of all shapes and sizes. I want to keep up that fight, and that starts with protecting the swing seat you helped me win in 2018.

I’ll only be able to pull this off with your help — especially since we have to find new ways to reach voters during these unprecedented times. Grassroots donations from supporters like you have never been more important.

With your help we made history in 2018. Help me do it again by pitching in a $10 donation to protect my seat and win re-election. This is one of the most competitive districts in the country, and anything you can give will go a long way in the fight for equality.

Thank you,

Chris
