Friend,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you’re able to celebrate this day of gratitude with your loved ones. As we bring this year to a close, I want to recognize YOU and all of your fellow Population Connection supporters. You have given your time, resources, and attention to our work throughout this year—we appreciate you! Stabilizing global population is a long-term effort, and I am grateful for your steadfast support. Just as one of our members recently wrote us: "I’m glad to know I’m not alone in caring about this issue." Your shared strength—there are 40,000 members like you!—gives me hope for our future.
So, from all of us at Population Connection, thank you!
Because of you, this year, we: -
Fielded over 4,600 submissions—from 58 countries—to our annual World of 8 Billion student video contest. Middle and high school students from around the globe sent in original short videos that tackled the topics of climate migration, invasive species, and global health as they relate to overpopulation.
-
Presented more than 600 workshops for current and future educators through our innovative Population Education program. These workshops help K-12 teachers incorporate population issues into their classrooms while meeting state and national standards.
-
Brought together over 900 Population Connection members and supporters for 19 virtual events throughout the year. These included presentations from our Global Partners, meetings of the Page Turners Book Club, periodic program updates with Population Connection staff, and more.
-
Provided nearly 100 presentations to college classrooms and community groups on topics relating to population, health, and the environment (PHE), making the links between global population growth and critical issues facing us all, such as climate change.
-
Participated in the United Nations Summit of the Future. As a result of our two oral statements and three rounds of comments on drafts of the document leading up to the Summit, the final Pact for the Future includes a form statement on addressing population challenges in sustainable development efforts. We also delivered an oral statement at the UN Commission on Population and Development and submitted a written statement at the Commission on the Status of Women.
- Mobilized our hard-hitting #Fight4HER campaign in collaboration with our sister organization, Population Connection Action Fund. Together, we were able to knock on over 137,000 doors and speak with 43,500 potential voters throughout the fall to help them understand the issues at stake during this election.
You made all of this—and so much more!—possible. I hope you have a joyous holiday season. We’re so grateful to you, on this day and every day. Warm regards, |
