While for some today is a day of gratitude, for Native communities throughout Turtle Island, today is a National Day of Mourning. Since time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have stewarded and lived in deep reciprocity with the land. Enduring hundreds of years of ongoing colonization, land dispossession, and environmental racism, Indigenous guardians continue to defend their land, rights, languages, and ways of life.

From the protests at Standing Rock ([link removed]) against the Dakota Access Pipeline to the Waorani-led fight ([link removed]) to keep oil drilling out of the Ecuadorian Amazon to the Munduruku’s victory towards land demarcation ([link removed]) in Brazil, Indigenous peoples across the world are on the front lines of resistance against the climate crisis, land theft, and corporate extractivism.

Indigenous wisdom and cosmologies remind us that our futures are intertwined and our liberation is bound together. We stand in principled solidarity with Indigenous-led movements worldwide fighting for self-determination and the rights of nature.

We know the threats to our communities and global climate have never been greater. Thank you for your continued solidarity with Indigenous peoples, who are the greatest guardians of the Amazon – the heart pump of our planet.

Together, we will continue to advance Indigenous sovereignty and land rights as the most effective solutions to safeguard the Earth and our collective future.

Today and every day, we encourage you to deepen your knowledge of the Indigenous lands you are on:
