Dear Friend,

The holiday season is a time to share and give thanks. And so I want to take this opportunity to thank you and to share some moments we are grateful for here at CPJ.

Thanks to your support, we're making a tangible difference every day. A prison support grant allowed Ksenia Lutskina, a freelance journalist who was jailed for eight years on anti-state charges, to pay for an MRI brain scan at a city hospital, a critical diagnostic step as she battled brain cancer from confinement. She was released in August following a presidential pardon. We've also covered surgery costs for Haitian reporter, Jean Marc Jean, injured while documenting protests. And we've undertaken relentless advocacy for individuals like José Rubén Zamora, an investigative journalist unjustly imprisoned for more than two years.

These are just a few examples of the impact you make possible. And while I could list countless more, I want you to hear directly from the journalists whose lives you've touched:

"I had so looked forward to meeting you all in person and sharing this moment with you. It would have been a relief, and a joy, to escape, even briefly, from the horrors of war. But in these times, knowing I have your support means just as much as being present in New York." - Shrouq Al Aila

"The CPJ was key for us in difficult moments, for example when our comrades were imprisoned, the CPJ's letters and advocacy helped get them released." - Quimy de León

"The Committee to Protect Journalists did a brilliant, professional job in my campaign. I've read and watched all the coverage done by my colleagues at the Committee. I'm so grateful. I'm free, and nobody can be happy without freedom." Alsu Kurmasheva

These words from this year's International Press Freedom awardees whom we honored last week capture what your generosity makes possible. On behalf of all of us at CPJ, thank you for your unwavering support. We're so proud to stand with you in this work, and we hope you're proud, too.

Wishing you a joyful, healthy holiday season. I look forward to staying connected in the year ahead.

Warmly,

Jodie
