So much of our lives is shaped by outlook. Two people in the same circumstances can have wildly different levels of happiness just based on their decided response. Challenges can be viewed as setbacks or opportunities.

This is why gratitude is so important. Life itself can be understood as a gift to be received with thankfulness – or seen as a burden to be endured.

Many women who find themselves pregnant but fearful become convinced that killing the child is more merciful than bringing that child into a world of suffering. This is a tragedy of outlook and isolation.

At Live Action, our goal is to help people see that suffering never cancels out purpose. Life is valuable despite circumstances, and gratitude can always be chosen. We are here for each other.

This is why Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday. We often get so caught up in the flurry of daily tasks that we forget to see the big picture: Life is a gift.

Not only does Thanksgiving help us reflect on the gift of life as a whole, but it also helps us see those around us as gifts instead of burdens. Sharing a celebratory meal together is meaningful because of the sharedness of the experience.

We can feel the purpose of our own lives when we look into the eyes of those around us.

Let’s allow today, Thanksgiving Day, to be a reminder of why we are working to end abortion. Let’s let gratitude transform our focus from seeing challenges as setbacks to seeing them as opportunities. Let’s embrace the fact that life is an unrepeatable gift and that we are blessed to be on this earth at the same time as those around us.

I’m grateful for the gift of life, to be fighting for the lives of the most vulnerable among us, and to be doing so alongside people like you, John.
