“Family Thanksgiving”

The thoughts of Thanksgiving,
Bring a variety of visions,
From beautiful big meals,
To family divisions…

An annual assembly,
Of seldom seen kinfolk,
Can make for strained conversations,
And even, some off-color jokes.

But we make it a reunion,
And do the best we can,
To enjoy camaraderie,
And stick to our good-humored plan.

The ladies work the kitchen,
Organizing every item.
To present a pretty table,
And serve food they can rely on.

The good food makes the day great,
Always thankful for the pies.
Then the men will watch football,
And share each other’s lies.

After dinner comes the games,
Reconnecting inner children.
Seems the winners are the same,
No matter what the program.

It is worth all the effort,
To renew relatives as friends.
Relationships be strengthened,
By achievements to commend.

Next year we’ll see kinfolk again,
And catch up on the news,
Talk of how things might have been,
And see that no one gets the blues.
