Hi there,

What if you could go back in time and stop the oil industry before it even started? Well, you can’t — but you can help stop the new frontier of nature destruction: deep sea mining.

Norway is opening the door for companies to carve up an area of the Arctic seabed the size of the UK. [1] This will cause irreversible damage to one of the world's most ancient ecosystems.

We can stop this industry before it starts, but we don’t have much time. Will you tell the Norwegian government to stop deep sea mining in the Arctic?

The Arctic plays a critical role in cooling our planet and its deep waters are home to many animals that we all love, like whales, dolphins and orcas. This unique habitat is already under threat from climate change, as it warms twice as fast as other parts of the world and the ice is rapidly disappearing. [2]

If we don’t step in, new extractive industries will damage it even further. Mining companies want to take massive equipment to one of the last untouched places on earth, and rip up everything and anything to find metals and minerals.

Species we’ve not yet discovered could be erased, unique habitats wiped out and pollution and debris from mining could harm wildlife nearer the surface. [3] But we have a chance to protect an ecosystem on the edge and preserve its critical role in the fight against the climate crisis.

Momentum is on our side. 32 countries, over 900 scientists, brands like Apple, Samsung and Volvo, and coastal communities have all come out against deep sea mining. [4][5][6]

Activists in Norway are already fighting back - imagine if we add the voices of thousands of ordinary people here in the UK to these calls? [7] The Norwegian government will have no choice but to listen and put a stop to this industry that plans to exploit our precious oceans for profit.

Can you spare a minute and tell Norway to stop this deep sea mining in the Arctic before it starts?
